Is Your Organization Running Asilomar Reports? PetPoint Can Help!
The animal welfare industry has constantly struggled with the fact that every organization tracks their statistics differently. Because of this, it has historically been impossible for organizations to be able to compare their results with those of other organizations, to find industry-wide trends, or to see where their organization is succeeding or needing improvement based on industry results. In order to address this situation in 2004 a group of industry leaders from across the US met at Asilomar in Pacific Grove, California, to develop a standardized way to report shelter data. Out of that meeting, the Asilomar Accords came into existence. The Asilomar Accord report tracks statistics on shelter inventory (on hand at the beginning and end of the time period), intakes (Like owner surrender, stray and transfer in) and outcomes (like adoption, return to owner, euthanasia, and transfer out).
Since its inception, more and more shelters have adopted the Asilomar Accord report and in order to meet our users’ needs, this report is built right into PetPoint. The unique thing however, is how we implemented Asilomar within PetPoint. We realized that our clients still wanted or needed to continue with their current method of reporting in order to meet the requirements of funders and/or local governments. With that in mind, we created the ability for PetPoint users to continue to use their current ways of tracking their statistics while also being able to participate in the national Asilomar Accord format.
Setting up the Asilomar Accord reports in PetPoint is easy. In the Administrative Options module, the user selects the different values they have originally customized in PetPoint and maps them to the values created by the Asilomar group. When mapped, the system will apply those values to all records, including historic data. It is also very easy to exclude information in your operation that is important for you to track but is outside the scope of the Asilomar Accords. These are things like Wildlife, Clinic Services or boarding. PetPoint users that need help setting this up or require help with any other of the PetPoint modules should contact the Helpdesk at 1-866-630-7387 ext. 400.
