Best of all, adopters who call in the first 72 hours after adoption can choose an extra 15 days of ShelterCare Gift coverage or $500 Renters Insurance to add to their policy. Be sure to inform your new pet parents about this offer at the time of adoption so they don’t miss this opportunity.

Increased Coverage Limit
The coverage limit per event under the gift program has now been increased from $500 to $750. The deductible has changed from $50 per condition to $75 per policy meaning several different conditions can be claimed under one policy deductible.
Giving Your Adopters the Choice
Adopters will be able to choose one of two options to extend their gift coverage by making a simple phone call to the ShelterCare call centre between 9.00 a.m. and 1.00 p.m. (EST) Tuesdays through Saturdays.
1) Adopters will be able to choose to increase the pre-paid gift period from 30 to 45 days, allowing them to continue treatment for longer periods of time.
2) Pet parents living in rental accommodation can choose instead to add a renters' endorsement to their 30 day gift of ShelterCare. This endorsement will cover any damage the newly adopted pet causes to the pet parents' rental unit.
We know that organizations have had difficulty attracting potential adopters who live in rental accommodation due to concerns about the ability to obtain landlord permission for the pet. We hope that this ShelterCare Gift choice will help increase adoption rates to adoption candidates who were restricted previously by a no pet policy.
The ShelterCare Pet Insurance Program was first introduced in 2002. More than 1.8-million dogs and cats have been enrolled in the program to date. The program features a 30-day pre-paid gift program provided by animal welfare organizations to those adopting dogs and cats from their facilities. ShelterCare Gift policies have paid over $7-million combined in post-adoption health related issues.
