Press Press Releases 2003 ShelterCare Pet Insurance Program
Insures Over 200,000 Shelter Pets. PROVO, UT, October 27, 2003. Pethealth Inc., owner of the ShelterCare Pet Insurance program for newly adopted pets, is excited to announce the program has surpassed the 200,000 mark of insured dogs and cats who have been adopted from a Petfinder.com member shelter or rescue group. Tyler Tolman of Orem, Utah, was the lucky 200,000th person to enroll his new dog, Bunker, a six-month-old English Cocker Spaniel adopted from the Lost Paws organization in Provo, Utah, into the ShelterCare program. To celebrate this milestone, Pethealth will be providing Bunker with one year of free dog food. The ShelterCare Pet Insurance program was introduced in January 2002 and is one of several pet insurance programs offered by Pethealth, North America's second largest provider of pet health insurance. ShelterCare, which covers 11 named perils, is available to every dog or cat adopted from a Petfinder.com organization in 45 U.S. states, the District of Columbia and all 10 Canadian provinces. Additionally, Petfinder.com pre-pays the first 60 days of ShelterCare coverage for the newly adopted pet with no-strings-attached or costs to the shelter or new pet owner. New adopters only have to call 1-866-375-PETS, or go online to www.ShelterCare.com, to activate the ShelterCare policy within 10 days of the adoption date in order to receive the 60-day gift coverage. "The ShelterCare Pet Insurance Program has steadily become an asset to shelters and rescue groups," says Betsy Saul, Petfinder.com founder and chief executive officer. "The program works because Petfinder.com members see the security and financial benefits of a pet insurance program for newly adopted dogs and cats." Mark Warren, CEO of Pethealth Inc., says there has been a tremendous response from shelters to join the program because it allows them to save more animals and utilize their scarce resources elsewhere. "Post-adoption illnesses or accidents often cause people to return their newly adopted pets back to the shelter. The ShelterCare Pet Insurance program addresses these issues by helping shelters and responsible pet owners avoid the financial costs associated with unexpected pet health care." There are over 6,300 Petfinder.com member shelters and rescue organizations across North America where adopters can take advantage of this unique pet insurance gift program.
